Description and operation
Description

The cooling fan operates in 2 stages (HIGH/LOW). The engine control module (ECM) controls the cooling fan according to the coolant temperature, vehicle speed and A/C operation.

Repair procedures
Removal and Installation
1.

Disconnect the battery negative terminal.

2.

Remove the air cleaner assembly.

(Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "Air Cleaner")

3.

Remove the engine room under cover.

(Refer to Engine And Transaxle Assembly - "Engine room under cover")

4.

Remove the air cleaner assembly.

(Refer to Intake and Exhaust - "Air Cleaner")

5.

Disconnect the RCV solenoide valve connector (A) and booster pressure sensor (BPS) connector (B).

6.

Disconnect the intercooler outlet hose (A).

7.

Remove the intercooler inlet hose & pipe (A).

Tightening torque

Hose clamp bolt :

4.9 - 6.9 N·m (0.5 - 0.7 kgf·m, 3.6 - 5.1 lb·ft, 43.4 - 60.8 lb·in)

(If equipped with a cap, tighten it until the cap is removed.)

Pipe mounting Bolt :

18.6 - 23.5 N·m (1.9 - 2.4 kgf·m ,13.7 - 17.4 lb·ft)

8.

Disconnect the cooling fan controller (PWM) connector (A).

9.

Remove the cooling fan assembly (A).

Tightening torque :

4.9 - 7.9 N·m (0.5 - 0.8 kgf·m , 3.6 - 5.8 lb·ft, 43.4 - 69.4 lb·in)

Cooling Fan Controller (PWM)

1.

Remove the air duct (A).

2.

Disconnect the cooling fan controller connector (A) and cooling fan connector (B).

3.

Remove the cooling fan controller (A).

Tightening torque :

4.9 - 8.3 N·m (0.50 - 0.85 kgf·m , 3.6 - 6.1 lb·ft, 0.43 - 0.74 lb·in)

4.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Disassembly
1.

Remove the cooling fan (A) from the cooling fan assembly.

Tightening torque :

2.8 - 3.3 N·m (0.28 - 0.33 kgf·m, 2.06 - 2.43 lb·ft, 24.3 - 28.6 lb·in)

2.

Disconnect the cooling fan motor connector (A).

Tightening torque :

2.8 - 3.3 N·m (0.28 - 0.33 kgf·m, 2.06 - 2.43 lb·ft, 24.3 - 28.6 lb·in)

3.

Remove the fan motor (A) from the cooling fan shroud.

Tightening torque :

3.9 - 5.9 N·m (0.4 - 0.6 kgf·m, 2.9 - 4.3 lb·ft, 35.4 - 53.1 lb·in)

4.

Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.

Inspection
Fan motor
1.

Disconnect the fan motor connector from the cooling fan controller.

2.

Connect the battery voltage to the "+" terminal and ground to "-" terminal.

3.

Check that the cooling fan motor operates well.
