Repair procedures

Inspection

Engine Oil Level

Be sure that the vehicle is on level ground.

1.	Warm up and stop the engine, and then wait for 5 minutes.

2.	Turn the engine off and wait for a few minutes (about 5 minutes) for the oil to return to the oil pan.

3.	Pull the dipstick out, wipe and re-insert it fully.

4.	Check that the oil level is between the "L" level mark and "F" level mark on the engine oil level gauge.

If the level is low, check for leakage and add oil up to the full level mark.

Use a funnel to help prevent oil from being spilled on engine components.

Do not fill the engine with oil to above the full level mark.

Engine Oil Appearance

1.	Check engine oil for white turbidity or heavy contamination.

2.	If engine oil becomes turbid and white, it is highly probable that it is contaminated with engine coolant. Repair or replace damaged parts.

Replacement

•	Prolonged and repeated contact with mineral oil will result in the removal of natural fats from the skin, leading to dryness, irritation and dermatitis. In addition, used engine oil contains potentially harmful contaminants which may cause skin cancer.

•	Exercise caution in order to minimize the length and frequency of contact of your skin to used oil. Wear protective clothing and gloves. Wash your skin thoroughly with soap and water, or use water-less hand cleaner, to remove any used engine oil. Do not use gasoline, thinners, or solvents.

•	In order to preserve the environment, used oil and used oil filter must be disposed of only at designated disposal sites.

Drain the engine oil.

(1)	Remove the oil filler cap.

(2)	After lifting the vehicle, remove the oil drain plug (A) and drain oil into a container.

Remove the oil filter

(1)	Remove the oil filter (A) with the oil filter wrench (09263-2E000)

(2)	Check and clean the oil filter installation surface.

(3)	Apply clean engine oil to the gasket of a new oil filter.

(4)	Install the new oil filter by hand till the gasket seats.

(5)

Tighten the oil filter to the specified torque using the oil filter wrench.

Tightening torque :

11.8 - 15.7 N·m (1.2 - 1.6 kgf·m, 8.7 - 11.6 lb·ft)

Refill with engine oil.

(1)

Clean and install the oil drain plug with a new gasket.

Tightening torque :

34.3 - 44.1 N·m (3.5 - 4.5 kgf·m, 25.3 - 32.5 lb·ft)

(2)

Fill with fresh engine oil.

Capacity

Total : 3.7 - 4.0 L (3.91 - 4.22 U.S.qt., 3.25 - 3.51 lmp.qt., 0.97 - 1.05 U.S.gal.)

Oil pan : 3.3L (3.48U.S.qt., 2.90 lmp.qt., 0.87 U.S.gal.)

Drain and refill including oil filter :

3.6 L (3.80U.S.qt., 3.16 lmp.qt., 0.95 U.S.gal.)

(3)	Install the oil filler cap.

4.	Start engine and check for oil leaks.

5.	Recheck the engine oil level.

6.	To reset the service interval to the recommended mileage, refer to the service mode section in the owner's manual for procedure (if applicable).

[NU 2.0 MPI]

1.	Park the car on level ground.

Drain engine oil.

(1)	Remove the oil filler cap (A).

(2)	After lifting the car, remove the oil drain plug (A) and drain oil into a container.

Replace the oil filter.

(1)	Using the SST (09263-2E000), remove the oil filter (A).

(2)	Check and clean the oil filter installation surface.

(3)	Check the part number of the new oil filter is as same as old one.

(4)	Apply clean engine oil to the gasket of a new oil filter.

(5)	Lightly screw the oil filter into place, and tighten it until the gasket contacts the seat.

(6)

Tighten it with the torque below.

Tightening torque :

11.8 - 15.7 N·m (1.2 - 1.6 kgf·m, 8.7 - 11.6 lb·ft)

Install the oil drain plug with a new gasket.

Tightening torque :

34.3 - 44.1 N·m (3.5 - 4.5 kgf·m, 25.3 - 32.5 lb·ft)

Fill with new engine oil, after removing the engine oil level gauge.

Capacity

Total :

4.5 L (1.19 U.S.gal., 4.76 U.S.qt., 3.96 lmp.qt.)

Oil pan :

3.7 L (0.98 U.S.gal., 3.91 U.S.qt., 3.26 lmp.qt.)

Drain and refill including oil filter :

4.0 L (1.06 U.S.gal., 4.23 U.S.qt., 3.52 lmp.qt.)

6.	Install the oil filler cap.

7.	Start engine and check for oil leaks and check the oil gauge or light for an indication of oil pressure.

8.	Recheck the engine oil level.

9.	To reset the service interval to the recommended mileage, refer to the service mode section in the owner's manual for procedure (if applicable).

(3)	Apply a light coat of new engine oil to the gasket of a new oil filter.

(4)	Install the new oil filter by hand till the gasket seats.

Tighten the oil filter to the specified torque using the oil filter wrench.

Tightening torque :

11.8 - 15.7 N·m (1.2 - 1.6 kgf·m, 8.7 - 11.6 lb·ft)

Refill with engine oil.

Clean and install the oil drain plug with a new gasket.

Tightening torque :

34.3 - 44.1 N·m (3.5 - 4.5 kgf·m, 25.3 - 32.5 lb·ft)

Fill with fresh engine oil.

4.6 L - 4.9 L (1.21 - 1.29 U.S.gal., 4.86 - 5.17 U.s.qt., 4.04 - 4.30 lmp.qt.)

Oil pan :

4.2 L (1.10 U.S.gal., 4.43 U.S.qt., 3.69 lmp.qt.)

Drain and refill in clouding oil filter :

4.5 L (1.18 U.S.gal., 4.75 U.S.qt., 3.95 lmp.qt.)

(3)	Install the oil filler cap.

4.	Start engine and check for oil leaks.

Recheck the engine oil level.

When rechecking the engine oil level, be sure to warm up the engine enough. If the engine warm up is not enough, the engine oil level can be measured less than specification.

6.	To reset the service interval to the recommended mileage, refer to the service mode section in the owner's manual for procedure (if applicable).

(1)	Remove the engine oil filler cap (A).

(2)	Remove the oil drain plug (A), and drain the oil.

Replace the engine oil filter.

(1)	Remove the oil filter drain plug (A) and then drain the engine oil from the engine filter cap.

(2)	Remove the engine oil filter cap (A).

(3)

Install the new o-ring (A) on the oil filter cap.

Always use new O-Ring.

(4)	Install the new oil filter.

(5)

Install engine oil filter cap (A).

Tightening torque :

22.6 - 27.5 N·m (2.3 - 2.8 kgf·m, 16.6 - 20.3 lb·ft)

Install the oil filter drain plug (A)

Tightening torque :

2.9 - 4.9 N·m (0.3 - 0.5 kgf·m, 26.6 - 44.2 lb·ft)

Refill with engine oil.

(1)

Install the oil drain plug (A) with a new gasket.

Tightening torque :

34.3 - 44.1 N·m (3.5 - 4.5 kgf·m, 25.3 - 32.5 lb·ft)

(2)

Fill with new engine oil while checking the oil level on the oil level gauge.

Capacity

Total :

4.5 L (1.18 U.S.gal., 4.75 U.S.qt., 3.95 lmp.qt.)

Oil pan :

4.1 L (1.08 U.S.gal., 4.33 U.S.qt., 3.60 lmp.qt.)

Drain and refill including oil filter :

4.4 L (1.16 U.S.gal., 4.64 U.S.qt., 3.86 lmp.qt.)

(3)	Install the oil filler cap (A).

4.	Start engine and check for oil leaks.

5.	Recheck th engine oil level.
