Repair procedures
Removal and Installation

[Disc type - Couple Torsion Beam Axle]

1.

Remove the rear wheel and tire (A).

Tightening torque:

107.9 - 127.5 N·m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf·m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb·ft)

  

Be careful not to damage to the hub bolts when removing the rear wheel and tire.

2.

Disconnect the wheel speed sensor (A).

3.

Release the parking brake lever and parking brake cable is loose.

4.

Remove the fixing clip (A) and then disconnect the parking brake cable (B).

5.

Remove the brake caliper mounting bolts (A), and then hold the brake caliper assembly with wire.

Tightening torque:

63.7 - 73.5 N·m (6.5 - 7.5 kgf·m, 47.0 - 54.2 lb·ft)

6.

Loosen the screws and then remove the rear brake disc (A).

Tightening torque:

4.9 - 5.9 N·m (0.5 - 0.6 kgf·m, 3.6 - 4.3 lb·ft, 43.4 - 52.1 lb·in)

7.

Remove the rear hub bearing (A) and dust cover (B).

Tightening torque:

Rear hub bearing : 49.0 - 58.8 N·m (5.0 - 6.0 kgf·m, 36.2 - 43.4 lb·ft)

Dust cover : 6.9 - 10.8 N·m (0.7 - 1.1 kgf·m, 5.1 - 8.0 lb·ft)

8.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

[Disc type - Multi link]
1.

Disconnect the battery negative terminal.

2.

Remove the rear wheel and tire (A).

Tightening torque :

107.9 - 127.5 N·m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf·m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb·ft)

  

Be careful not to damage to the hub bolts when removing the rear wheel and tire.

3.

Remove the rear brake caliper.

(Refer to Brake System - "Rear Disc Brake")

4.

Remove the rear brake disc (A) by loosening the screws.

Tightening torque:

4.9 - 5.9 N·m (0.5 - 0.6 kgf·m, 3.6 - 4.3 lb·ft, 43.4 - 52.1 lb·in)

5.

Disconnect the rear wheel speed sensor connector (A).

6.

Loosen the lower mounting bolt and nut and then detach the rear shock absorber (A) from the rear carrier.

Tightening torque:

137.3 - 156.9 N·m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf·m, 101.3 - 115.7 lb·ft)

7.

Remove the trailing arm.

(1)

Loosen the trailing arm bolts (A) from the body.

Tightening torque:

98.1 - 117.7 N·m (10.0 - 12.0 kgf·m, 72.3 - 86.8 lb·ft)

Disconnect the rear wheel speed sensor wiring (A) by loosening the bolt (B).

Tightening torque:

8.8 - 13.7 N·m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf·m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb·ft)

Remove the trailing arm (C) by loosening the bolts (D).

Tightening torque:

137.3 - 156.9 N·m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf·m, 101.3 - 115.7 lb·ft)

8.

Detach the rear upper arm (A) from the rear carrier.

Tightening torque:

137.3 - 156.9 N·m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf·m, 101.3 - 115.7 lb·ft)

9.

Detach the rear assist arm (A) from the rear carrier.

Tightening torque:

137.3 - 156.9 N·m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf·m, 101.3 - 115.7 lb·ft)

10.

Detach the rear lower arm (B) from the rear carrier.

Tightening torque:

137.3 - 156.9 N·m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf·m, 101.3 - 115.7 lb·ft)

11.

Remove the rear axle assembly (A).

12.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

13.

Check the alignment.

(Refer to Suspension System - "Rear Alignment")

[Drum Type]

1.

Remove the rear wheel and tire (A).

Tightening torque:

107.9 - 127.5 N·m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf·m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb·ft)

  

Be careful not to damage to the hub bolts when removing the rear wheel and tire.

2.

Disconnect the parking brake clip (A).

3.

Loosen the bolt and the remove the parking brake cable (A).

Tightening torque :

18.6 - 25.5 N·m (1.9 - 2.6 kgf·m, 13.7 - 18.8 lb·ft)

4.

Loosen the screw (A) and then remove the disc (B).

Tightening torque :

4.9 - 5.8 N·m (0.5 - 0.6 kgf·m, 3.6 - 4.3 lb·ft)

5.

Remove the spring (A, B, C).

6.

Remove the shoe (A).

7.

Disconnect the parking brake cable (A) from lining (B).

8.

Remove the brake hose (A) and then loosen the cylinder bolt.

9.

Loosen the hub mounting bolt and then remove the hub (A) from the torsion beam.

Tightening torque :

49.0 - 58.8 N·m (5.0 - 6.0 kg·m, 36.2 - 43.4 lb·ft)

10.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Disassembly
[Disc type - Multi link]
1.

Remove the hub bearing (A) from the rear carrier.

Tightening torque:

88.3 - 107.9 N·m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf·m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb·ft)

2.

Remove the dust cover (A) from the rear carrier.

Tightening torque:

6.9 - 10.8 N·m (0.7 - 1.1 kgf·m, 5.1 - 8.0 lb·ft)

3.

Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.

Inspection
1.

Check the hub for cracks and the splines for wear.

2.

Check the brake disc for scoring and damage.

3.

Check the rear axle carrier for cracks.

4.

Check the bearing for cracks or damage.
